At last , an Aussie victory. Craig Williams was superb in the aftermath, he said all the right things. His was a superb ride, how he didn’t go through the fence I’ll never know. It was a victory for the Caulfield Cup, here we had a winner with the Cup influence again, only the third in the past 20 years, so many left it all out.
Prince OF Arran, what a solid run again. This honorary aussie, just kept coming on , as I knew he would, a real gutsy effort but he just couldnt get there. I knew when I saw that Geelong Cup win he would go close but he never got to the front.
It was one of the slowest Melbourne Cups ever run, and maybe that was because the on pace runners were never challenged until too late.
This was the very first time in my life I have missed the winner three times in a row, in fact never have I missed twice in a row. Yet ironically I have never ever had so many people view my Melbourne Cup preview.
Two days of the Cup Carnival to go.
Yesterday our Gold Club horse Waiheke showed us it was all over with a 4th at Canberra in a low class race. when Waller had him he won a maiden well but in very slow time. That’s when I thought it was not as good as what everyone thinks. He’s as fit as hands can make him and maybe watching the replay, it was not as good a ride as what was expected either with McDougal having a punt and taking him to the lead midrace. Yet even so, he was two lengths clear on turning but had nothing at the finish. He started odds on favourite so lots of disappointed punters and Gold Club Members out there.
We get to see our mighty filly fly at Hawkesbury this Thursday as she tries to repeat her win last week. I hope our new rider doesn’t try the same tactics that worked last week as we know that wont work this week. She needs to be settled mid field then get close enough at the turn to run them down.
Hope all members took my advice and backed Prince Of Arran each way. A good result considering.
John Furgals SMS had just four each way selections yesterday and three of those placed at prices of $5.50, $1.80 (photo) and $2.30 so while riding a wave of long placed placegetters, the win streak has stopped with 14 failing to win since last Fridays $11.90 winner. However, four of those were from The Bolter system and only 4 of the other selections were actual win only bets and all 4 of those were favourites!
