IN 1934 in the US Frank Hayes had his last race ride And First Ever winner. He’d been trying for a long time. Problem was he died about a furlong from the post but his body stayed rigid in the saddle and so the Race Club confirmed the win saying the horse had carried the correct weight.
In Australia about in the 70’s and I can’t believe it was that long ago but Ray Selkrig fell from his mount near the line but was caught in the stirrup and dragged to the post. Similarly it was declared that the horse had carried his weight and declared the winner. Ray passed away at the age of 93 one of Australias best ever riders,
