SO YOU’RE WONDERING WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? Personally I’d be looking for both as sometimes prizemoney can be simply a move from one race venue to another in the same basic class. There are also venues which have one higher prizemoney race for say a Class 2. Anyhow, I was asked to run a set of rules through for a client and it came up with enormous numbers of selections and so I queried it a bit and discovered this was just the qualifying set. On the day he would look at only those races where there was only one selection and then apply additional criteria. Over last weekend there were enough selections to return a 28 unti profit or $2800 for a $100 per selection outlay. On the run around I spotted races where nearly every runner was done in prizemoney and or class etc. I tried the HR2D selections and guess what I found? When both down in class (by at least one grade e.g. Class 2 to Class1 or Benchmark 64 to Benchmark 58 just to give a clear example, and down in prizemoney the strike rate came to 37% winners. Good one, and the beauty is you can get on first thing in the morning with an average of just 3 or 4 selections a day. Profit on turnover was an exciting 14.7% . If I used down in prizemoney only the difference was stark. The strike rate dropped to 25% and a loss of 13%. Food for thought.
