Race time changes abandoned meetings you name it, juts another consequence of this heat and as for the horses?? Well I expect decisions have to be made. In one conversation I heard that a well know horse is being held in the stable simply to stay out of the heat. It is a modern complex with high ceilings, cooling and so on but we all know how we feel after being exposed to the sun and heat.
Yesterday I sailed in strong noreasters and even though I was constantly cooled by the water flowing over the deck the water itself in places was like sitting in a hot bath. As I passed one area I was protected from the wind but then the sun hit and I baked until I found the breeze again. After bringing in the boat and relaxing with a beer and dip I felt a bit drained. It didnt prevent me from finding a $41 winner and $78 Quinella in cooler Launceston, it was an effort just to sit and wait between races. So it concerns me about how the horses could feel? Will we see performances that don’t reflect the form or will we find horses that relish the heat? Its all another challenge.
