That’s the result yesterday at Belmont, where the trcak was good all day. Balaklava found some winners but elksewhere it was not so good. The Maiden plan came unstuck at the Soft track at the Gold Coast and the first three favourites were badly bloused. I was only around for the last ten minutes of Origin 2 last night but it was made clear where Queenslands dominance of the past few years has come from. Thurston and Slater were back in the team and that was enough to get the win. Both players retire from Origin after this year and the balance may then go back to NSW like it did in Game 1 without them. Now compare the AFL and NRL. The AFL is such that any team can win any game and the 8 is a minefield and anbyhting but clear cut apart from say Adelaide and GWS, well okay Geelong looks safe too but the rest, well it will come down to one or two games. In The NRL Melbourne dominates yet again but the 8 is relatyively stable otherwise as the outside the 8 it is a race to the bottom. Let’s face it, last weekend 7,000 souls at the ANZ stadium with a capacity of 80,000+ . The code is losing interest at Club level with top level management having few clues on how to promote the game in the modern era. They’re almost as bad as certain Racing administrations, which continue to pander to the corporate owners and breeders whilst continuing to stomp on the punting public. Welcome to today’s rant!
