Bear On The Loose: Pre Race Report |
Please see below a pre-race report from Gai and Adrian on Bear On The Loose before he takes on the Toyota Forklifts Handicap at Randwick today
“Bear On The Loose returns to the races at Randwick on Saturday to contest the Benchmark 88 Handicap over 1800 metres with jockey Nash Rawiller booked to ride. He had his main gallop in preparation for the race on Tuesday morning when working solo over 1200 metres on the polytrack. Ridden by jockey Sam Clipperton, he clocked 11.9 seconds over the final 200 metres and Sam said, “He worked great this morning and closed off the galloped in super style to the line.”
He rates as favourite and the main dangers appear to be Time Quest and Amberite. Time Quest is a tough and consistent individual who finished 2.3 lengths behind Bear in his last start. He needs some scratchings to get in the field and he’ll need to improve again to be competitive on this rise in grade, but he has the addition of an off-side blinker in search off that extra couple of lengths he requires in the closing stages and can’t be ruled out if he gains a start. Amberite is a talented New Zealand import who has won twice and placed second once in his three starts on Australian soil thus far. He rises in grade in this contest but should relish the heavy underfoot conditions and is expected to be three or thereabouts at the finish.
Bear On The Loose gave us all such a thrill when winning so impressively in his first Australian start two weeks ago. He got into a lovely rhythm on the speed and when he was asked to go and win his race at the top of the straight, he showed a great turn of foot to surge clear of his rivals and register a dominant victory. He’s come through that run in wonderful order, and he is thriving at present. He’s got a great appetite, his coat looks terrific, and we couldn’t be happier with how he is training at this stage in the campaign. Ideally our usual preference would be to step up in distance second-up, but given his rating the option simply isn’t there. However, Randwick is a stiffer test of stamina so whilst he’s over 1800 metres again we think the additional demands of this track will play to his strengths. Nash will be positive from the wide drawn to get him into a forward position, and ideally he’ll try and repeat the tactics he used so successfully last time. He’s up in grade and it’s a competitive race so he needs to keep improving, but he’s a talented gelding with plenty of upside and we expect him to be hard to beat once again.”
Gai and Adrian have provided an insight into their thoughts on tomorrow’s race.
Best of luck, and enjoy your weekend!
Everything in this book is very valid and a winning strategy even if you only have access to the ratings on TAB etc.
