This is from the foreword of his second book
BEFORE THE FIRST
Some weeks ago, Garry Robinson rang to ask me whether I would give
permission to package and sell Chapters five and six from my 2007 book
Racing My Perfect Investment, as he was still receiving enquiries as to
its availability four years on. The print run was limited due to my wish
to protect prices, which is a real issue with the longer priced horses. As
it turns out, the average price of chapter six winners did drop around 2
points from over $11 to around $9, and has stabilized at that level.
With this in mind, I decided to revise the whole book, add more detailed
instructions as to how to go about things, introduce you to how to think
outside the box, and familiarize you with software and products that I use
or have used with success. I wish to point out that I have no financial
connection with any product I describe to you, nor do I receive any
kickbacks or commissions. I have purchased or subscribed to all of them
except Smartform and the Betting Horses to Win courses. As those of
you who have read either in Edition One or in AHR articles, I generally
purchase any product that could be of value to me, and even if I learn
only one thing from each that helps me to become more productive, or
my betting more profitable, then it has paid its way. I’m still learning,
and I’m smart enough to know how much I don’t know.
When I was young I was never interested in horse racing. However, I
knew an older guy who was obviously well off, and every now and then
he used to tell me about how the UNIVERSITY OF THE TURF was
there for anyone who wanted to be their own boss, or wanted to have the
satisfaction of being a success, knowing it had come from their own
efforts. I used to listen politely, not really knowing what he was on about
BUT, later I realized I was hearing but not listening. I began to listen. It
wasn’t the excitement of the racecourse, or the beautiful animals. It was
THE MONEY pure and simple. Still is.
So in an era almost devoid of ‘how to do it’ books, together with
newspaper formguides with legendary misprints, I began my quest for
knowledge of the horse racing business. The only real way to learn was
to attend the races, talk to people, and try to fathom who were the serious
or the casual punters. Seeing as true racing people are a breed apart, I
was befriended by quite a few, and some took me under their wing either
as a special project, a protégé, or they felt sorry for me and couldn’t let
this fool blunder on. As time went by, I was accepted as a person who
was serious about learning it all and going all the way. I have never ……

forgotten the generosity of spirit of those men, all of them having passed
on. In that same spirit, I have lived my life doing a favour after accepting
a favour. Later in my life, I learned about playing it forward, doing three
favours for every one I received. I would like to think those who read
this book are of good spirit, and either do, or will start, playing it forward.
The opportunity for success at horse racing investment has never been
greater. What is on offer out there is amazing if you know where to look,
and if you can find out from someone is it ‘any good,’ so now, between
the covers of this book there is detail on Day Trading, specially useful for
those who have retired or have been made redundant and could use the
extra income, and methods that have been a success for many years.
Many of them don’t advertise or promote in any way, relying on word of
mouth. Much of the software reviewed herein is so good, that if you
can’t win with it you should really try something else. I’m serious. There
are staking plans, and systems information. And I suggest services who
will do it all for you who actually win. Yes they are out there.
A guy down the road rang me the other day, complaining about not being
able to burn a particular DVD and asking what to do about it. I asked
him what software he had and he named a good product. So I walked to
his place, only to find he was using the free demo, and he was too tight to
actually pay for the bells and whistles version. I would like you to think
about this when considering what tools you need to aquire for your
budding horse racing investment business. Two things my Daddy taught
me. If you think it is too expensive, it is. And do I need it? Or do I just
want it? For instance, if you think a particular piece of software is too
expensive, think about how much money it could generate for you once
you got your head around it. And if you just want it, and go ahead and
buy it and install it, play around a bit with it, decide it’s too much trouble,
and leave it in the pile of other things you’ve bought, more often than not
you could be passing up a great opportunity.
I wish to point out other products exist out there that may be great, so
don’t think that just because I haven’t included them, they are not up to
scratch. Not at all. Some could be great. But in all honesty, I am only
including products I use or have used, so I write my comment from first
hand experience. There are only a couple of products that I have not
used, but I have ‘look over the shoulder’ experience with close associates.
So if you haven’t already started your horse racing journey, now is a
good time. Make it happen and enjoy the ride.
I can honestly tell you that I made a lot of money following Trevor Johns advice. What I didnt follow was Trevor himself who moved to Thailand around 10 years ago to retire in comfort off his race and investment earnings.
Initially he secured a comfortable house to rent and a housekeeper all up for around $200 australian a month. Why would you come back here? And as John Furgal said , who had a holiday for a month there recently, the food is cheap and plentiful and amazing and around $23 a day plus he had access to the Internet and ran his business from there while he was away.
Ros and I will stay here, too bloody hot and humid over there. We have been once, well twice if you include the airport and we couldnt handle the heat.
I havnt a single selection today so will read a book .
Not many of this left in hard copy but we will give a free ebook if you buy one of the remainder. Cost $295. You could win that back in a couple of days.
