Yes we found the 100/1 winner of the Melbourne Cup and we passed this on to thousands of people through our E-News and website and YouTube video but our thrill, well our Gold Club Members thrill, came from the win of Bid Of Faith at Canberra, a filly we have a very minor share in. It won easily even if it had to be reminded to work all the way to the line. This came after the disappointment of seeing our other runner Flash In The Dark in the previous Canberra race, run last, the second such placing after two gutsy wins. There is nothing quite like seeing a horse you have a share of, winning a race, any race. I remember being devestated when I missed seeing my horse Lord Chris, winning at Cessnock. Why? My boss wouldnt give me the day off to go there. It never won another race. Yesterdays Cup win showed us what is truly the reason it is such a great race. It is still a handicap. Any horse can win it if fit enough and fast enough and lucky enough. The last 600 was run at a frantic pace in what otherwise has been one of the slowest run Cups and that is because Big Orange was allowed to dictate the speed in true European style. I also think now about how this could have been one of my greatest punting days when I had the first two legs of the Quaddie in only to see me lose the last two legs running second in both. The $450,000 dividend, strangely enough, was found by dozens of punters if only for a flexi share. How many of them took the field in each leg? For once that startegy paid off. And how about the First Four, we had three of the four and no trifecta either, two out of three. But thayt’s eight wins out of the last eight Cups and we thought that with all the Internationals it was going to get harder to pick. We’re doing okay.
