A number of riders penalised for excessive use of the whip yesterday but no races taken off those riders. Perhaps the winning margins were too great?? If they were then why did the jockeys bother to continue with the whip? It’s a worthwhile question. The BMW produced two major failures in Our Ivanhowe, which in my opinion was ridden too far forward, and Mongolian Khan which simply may not have eomc up this preparation …OR..may have needed the run more than connections expected. I know Bart Cummings would have given him more runs before such a major race. Preferment though was in a class of his own, no doubt about it and I guess I reget advising Members to only take him as a saver. As it turned out with him blowing in the betting , I was able to back all three of our top three rated horses and double my outlay on the race. My big disappoitnment was Magic Cube in tyhe last at Rosehill as I though he was home and also Craft Cop which also looked home before going down to a longshot. In Perth All Gee came up with three of our plans inclduing Swooper and won at $12. It got me out of a bit of a deep hole but luckily I had piut it on before the track downgrade to a soft 6 which would have excluded it. I did pull the plug on our last selection Lunar Eclipse which did win at $6. I wish I had placed that bet early too as it was a lot to miss out on.

The whip rules just seem to be a dog’s breakfast as I predicted in my last post. Why weren’t the horses ridden by the jockeys that were fined not subject to relegation? I guess that the owners and trainers would not stand for it over time. The rules are ungovernable. What happens in a big race like the BMW or other similar races? I would probably guess that half the field could have been relegated under the whip rules as the jockeys are pushed into breaking the rules by the size of the prize.
Why didn’t the jockey on Who Shot Thebarman protest? Had he not broken the rules himself you would think on past rulings that it would have had to be promoted to first. However, the jockey of Who Shot Thebarman also broke the rules, so couldn’t really protest could he? I wonder how far down the list we have to go before we see a jockey that hasn’t broken the rules?
It just gets sillier the further you look into it.
