Ros and I did the driveway Remembrance this morning and I played the Last Post with my daughter’s Roland on the brass setting. It took me a lot of work to set it up and rehearse and it still wasn’t perfect. At 5 a.m. Ros said to me you’re going to a lot of trouble and you will probably be the only one there. She was wrong. All up and down the street, and we have several absent owners (ours is a holiday area) people were out on the driveways and on their balconies. Young and Old, ex servicemen and millenials, all were represented.
I wore my fathers World War 11 medals for his service in the Pacific to remember him and honour his service , I was CMF myself. Ros thought I was doing it for my Dad but that is not just that. I did it for Australia and all of us. And judging by the response in our little community, there are only about 20 houses here, I expect that not hundreds , not thousands but millions would have been involved Australia wide.
It is a day for us to remember, not just the Armed services all of our services. Lest We Forget.
