Favourites don’t often win the Melbourne Cup but this year it just might. I am not a fan of Fame Game but the times this horse has run in Japan make his claims real. There are anumber of factors in this years Cup and they include the excellent form lines coming out of Caulfield and the wins of The United States and Excess Knowledge which has a tough back up but one that hasn’t stopped horses like that in the past. One of the good things about the Cup is that you can usually back a group of runners and still make a good to great profit and this means that I have won on all but 4 or 5 Cups since I had my first Cup Bet win freshly out of school in the 60’s. For years before that, the radio was always on in the classroom at Cup time. Our Sportsmaster insisted! With the grwoign number of Internationals in the field the element of surprise is always there and the weather is something else that will intervene, as it did on Saturday and there is no planning for it. It is Melbourne after all! The form around Max Dynamite which won over 3299 meters at York is screwed up as the time has been underreported by a minute. There is also a discrepancy in the time for running 2nd in the 2 mile Newcastle race on June 27th 3.39.4 on the day or or 3.26.5 in the for guide so you can see the difficulty. Anyhow I have made a video explaining my thinking which includes saving on Fame Game and investing is several others at big prices.
