The big feature of the weight change in NSW is that there are big allowances for horses that win country events and big “penalties” for city horses competing in country events. There is probably also a big advantage now for having horses trained in the country. As well as lower expenses, the atmosphere really helps some horses settle better and you often see good horses come to town from some of these stables. Think Mathew Dale and Keith Dryden out of Canberra and Barbara Joseph out f the Sapphire Coast, it’s right in the middle of the bush, a really natural setting. And don’t forget the Heywood camp out of Wagga.
