Where were the prices? At Flemington in race 8 yesterday I backed our top rated horse each way and for the place got $12, but the best winner on the Daily Mail was only $2.90 and only two Quinellas, both less than $10. It happens, as my old mate The Optimist used to say. Another of his sayings was swings and roundabouts. It turns around. You couldn’t help but admire the wins of Sunlight and Written By but you couldn’t get rich on the dividends. Highstrikers Last Minute Mail was another case in point. 8 wins from 18 races, one was lost on protest but most would have got the protest payout I suggest. and it was to a horse that hadn’t won for nearly three years. And we had second but we won enough specials to math our normal strike rate, juts not the dividends to gloat about it. John Furgals SMS only got two wins but made a nice profit. Two of them ran second as well so 80% placed. One of those got left at the start and still motored home to just miss at a very good price. Our Autumn package got one $25.90 quinella and an early First four which didn’t pay all that much. So lots of action and not a lot to show for it. Lucky they go around again next week (thats another blast from the past)
