Being in a regional area I am blasted each night with ads for the Provincial and Country championships. These are a series of races run at various venues for massive prizemoney and culminating in finals in April with $400k allocated to the Provincial final and $400k for the Country final on Saturday April 2nd. The heats are worth $100k each and there is a wildcard event worth $50k as a final chance to qualify. Horses that run 1st 2nd or 3rd in the heats are the initial qualifiers. As we have a number of horses in the Winform Gold Club and all in NSW at the moment, that appeals to me as a chance to get into the big prizemoney which would otherwise only be available in Group races. For once I think Racing NSW might have it right. We have a Group 3 at Moonee Valley tomorrow night followed up by the Group 1 Blue Diamond, Futurity and Oakleigh Plate Saturday at Caulfield. Worth waiting for.
