Our two Gold Club horses were scratched from Goulbourn yesterday due to unfavourable barriers and as it turned out virtually no horses won after coming from behind. The inside grass was much firmer I am told so now these two will probaly run Friday which will make three on the one day. A look at the selections yesterday and what they would have been if run today reveal some different results. Why? There were a number of late scratchings yesterday and this is where you cannot rely 100% on simply going back on a database . Yes the datbase itself is 99.9% accurate BUT it cannot tell you the results after taking into account last scratchings or changing track conditions. This is why we do research based on randon months, then a six month run then if still looking good a 2 to 3 year run then a wqtch on selections going forward at least a month or two and then if we get similar results we enact the strategy. Even so, there are points when we review the strategy and if necessary change it to reflect changes in race rules etc.
